» … In den 80er Jahren der ehemaligen DDR geboren, bin ich in einem geschlossenen und diktatorischen System in einer Familie aufgewachsen, die durch den Berliner Mauerbau Trennung und Verluste erlebt hat. Heute finde ich in den Relikten der militärischen Vergangenheit in Südfrankreich einen Bezug zu meiner eigenen Geschichte. Im Rahmen des Residenzprogrammes von Le Garage Photographie und dem Goethe-Institut bewege ich mich auf den Spuren der Geschichte, der architektonischen Überreste, die sich wie getarnt – fast bis zur Unsichtbarkeit – in die Landschaft integrieren. Die künstlichen Befestigungsanlagen werden Teil der lokalen Landschaft und sind sich selbst überlassen. Zugleich habe ich mich mit der Geschichte Marseilles als Exilstadt intensiv beschäftigt, um den Erlebnissen jener nachzuspüren, die Europa in Richtung Amerika mit dem Schiff verlassen wollten …« Margret Hoppe

“ … Born in the 80s of the former GDR, I grew up in a closed and dictatorial system in a family that experienced separation and losses due to the construction of the Berlin Wall. Today I find a reference to my own history in the relics of the military past in the south of France. As part of the residence program of Le Garage Photographie and the Goethe-Institut I follow the traces of history, revealing the architectural remains that appear camouflaged, almost invisibly integrating into the landscape. The artificial fortifications become part of the local landscape and are left to their own devices.
